She dreamed of paradise, every time she closed her eyes~

Hello! This is Lilian, a Physicist in the making; dreamer; great procrastinator. I may seem like a socially-awkward human-being but believe me when I say that if you get to know me more, I still am :) When words fail, my blog speaks. I am eternally in love with Edward Christopher Sheeran. 😍12.10.2011♥

— It’s really been a long time since I wrote something, so long it feels like eons ago. I mean, I write stuffs at school. But it’s so different. All the stuffs I wrote were stuffs I didn’t like to write about. Well, mostly. Anyhow, writing is like talking minus the hassle of actually talking. You see, I am a bad speaker but I am not bitter about it. I believe that every inability opens a door to awesome abilities. I’m saying this because I haven’t thought of something good to write about yet. I don’t want it to be too dramatic, I just want it to be real. I want to feel real. Okay, here we go. —

According to science, happiness is caused by chemicals in our brain called dopamine and serotonin. Things like sex, laughter, or chocolates can trigger our brains to release these chemicals, causing our level of happiness to go up. If happiness is this easy to achieve, why does man have to chase happiness his whole life?

I’ve lived for almost 18 years and there’s one thing I am very certain of: every person’s goal in life is to be happy. We don’t study hard to get a diploma, we study hard to be happy after getting our diplomas. We work hard to be happy after finally getting our dream house. Everything we do, though unconsciously, we do for our happiness. But after that, what? Can we maintain the happiness we so hardly worked for?

Apparently, not. The happiness of getting a diploma or a new house can last for days, even weeks. But it could never last forever. What to do? Are we not dreaming to be forever happy? Are we always going to lose the happiness we sought for and chase it again, just to lose it many more times? Will our life be forever like that, just a pursuit of happiness, never a life of happiness?

Is happiness just a metaphor created for dreamers? Is it just a surge of dopamine and serotonin? Or is it more than that?
